Myrna Pelren, 74, of Crawford, NE passed away November 9, 2014 at her home in Crawford, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Crawford Community Church with Pastor Marsha Stauss officiating.  Burial will be at the Crawford Catholic Cemetery.

Myrna Faith Pelren, passed away unexpectedly on November 9 at her home in Crawford, Nebraska.  She was born on November 20, 1939 on the pineridge, Nebraska about 18 miles south of Crawford to Ralph and Fern Miller.

Myrna was the valedictorian of the 1957 graduation class of Crawford High School and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Crawford Hospital.

She married Jack Pelren on January 25, 1958.

Myrna was an avid reader, loved cinnamon rolls, and loved being in the country.  During her time, she established a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  She was a Godly example to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband Jack of 56 years of Crawford, a sister, Betty Brauer of Manchester, Iowa; a brother, Dale Miller of Van Tassel, Wyoming; a daughter, Kathy (Scott) Smith of Cheyenne, Wyoming; a son-in-law, Don, of Reno, NV; five grandchildren, Chad Smith of Lakewood, CO, Chris Smith (Lisa) of Greenwood, IN, Kathy Redmon, Beth (Josh) Stoycoff, and Rebecca Lundgren all of Reno, NV, and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Ruth, and a daughter, Laurie.

Leonard Kriz, 82,  of Crawford, NE passed away November 10, 2014 at the Chadron Community Hospital, Chadron, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 14, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the First Congregational Church in Crawford with Pastor Bill Bagley and Pastor Trey Brennan officiating.  Burial will be at the Crawford Cemetery.
Leonard James Kriz, 82, of Crawford, passed away Monday, November 10 after battling heart related problems for a number of years.

He was born on March 5, 1932 at Hemingford, NE, the youngest of three sons born to Joe and Hattie (Kriss) Kriz.  As a young boy he grew up on a farm northeast of Hemingford and attended rural school district #10 through eighth grade.  He graduated from Hemingford High School in 1950 and was drafted into the Army on Feb. 5, 1953.  He served two years at Fort Bliss and White Sands Military Base and was trained in the new field of rocket guidance.  He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on Feb. 4, 1955 and served another six years in the Army Reserves. He was a member of the Eagles and American Legion.

On June 10, 1956, he married Lois Homrighausen at her home south of Crawford.  The couple lived their entire married life on a farm/ranch seven miles south of Crawford.  To this union three children were born, Diane, Twila, and Bryan.  He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them.  Three great-grandchildren brought special joy to his life later. 
Farming and ranching was his lifelong passion. He took great pride in his crops and cattle and enjoyed sharing stories about the changes made in agriculture during his lifetime. He also enjoyed square dancing and playing pitch with his friends and neighbors. In later years, he enjoyed traveling and one highlight was an Alaskan cruise to see the glaciers.  Meeting Pastor Bill Bagley and growing with his church family also became important to him after his first heart surgery.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lois of Crawford; daughters Diane (Alan) Hardt of Omaha; Twila (Lyle) Phillips of Mullen; and son, Bryan (Karin) Kriz of Crawford; grandchildren, Christi (Corey) Brew, Omaha; Alicia (Tim) Hinze, St. Louis, MO; Casey (Heather) Phillips, Kansas City, MO; Carrie (Brandon) Plummer, Omaha; Kyle Phillips, Lincoln; Katie Phillips, Grand Island; Kory Phillips, Hastings; Kelsey Phillips, Mullen; Joe and James Kriz, Crawford; great-grandchildren include Isaac and Ethan Brew, and Addison Plummer all of Omaha; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents Joe and Hattie Kriz, and brothers, Julius and Marcus Kriz all of Hemingford.

Bonita “Bonnie” Leora Merrival, 68 of Pine Ridge, SD passed away November 5, 2014 in Irene, South Dakota

Bonita Leora Merrival was born on January 29, 1940 in Pine Ridge, SD to Hermus and Edith (Martin) Merrival.
She attended grade school at the Pine Ridge Public School and graduated from the Pine Ridge High School.
Bonita was the victim of a debilitating illness that caused her to be away from home, from her teens throughout her life time to receive proper medical care. During this time, she was fortunate to have a kind and caring staff.
Bonita is survived by siblings; Donroy Merrival, Lema Merrival, Ila Twiss (Lloyd), and Theresa Schuh (Edward) and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hermus and Edith Merrival, sisters Doris Jean Clifford and Greta Brown.

Survivors Include:
Helen Rose (Standing Soldier) Curtis was born on October 12, 1924 in Wanblee, SD to Paul Standing Soldier and Mae Perez Witt.  Helen lived a good long life; she celebrated her 90th birthday on October 12, 2014 in Hot Springs, SD.  She was an avid BINGO player and loved all her family and friends; especially her grandchildren.  Helen was also a special aunt to all her nieces and nephews. 

Helen had the best sense of humor; she had a way of finding humor in almost everything and anything.  She could make you laugh, even when you didn’t feel like it.  Helen was a very dignified and private person.  She was a very good listener; we could pour our hearts out to her and she would listen attentively and quietly.  She will be greatly missed by us all!

Linda Mae (Nicks) Knote, 72, of Chadron, NE passed away September 30, 2014 at Crestview Care Center in Chadron, Nebraska.
Linda was born on July 13, 1942 in Clarksville, Texas (Red River County) in North East Texas.  Linda was born to Thomas George and Lottie Mae (Marcum) Nicks.  In her early life she lived on the family farm south of Avery, Texas and later moved to Petersburg in the Texas Panhandle, and then to Sherman, Texas north of Dallas.  She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ.  She graduated from high school in 1960.  She majored in elementary education and accounting at Abilene, Christian University (College), in Abilene Texas. 

Linda met Darrel Knote in the summer of 1964, and they were married on December 18, 1964 in Sherman.  Darrel & Linda made their home in Abilene, TX until moving to Rosebud, TX in 1966.  Darrel & Linda worked with a number of churches in Texas and Wyoming before moving to Alliance, NE in 1974.  Linda and Darrel’s later years were spent in Chadron, NE, after moving there in 1994.  She was a very supporting wife of a preacher, and very involved in evangelism.  She was very involved in the business opportunities of the family, especially working with the children at Skateland of Chadron, which Linda & Darrel owned for a number of years.  She was also very involved with the sewing machine business that they owned & operated.  Later on she served as receptionist at Northwest Community Action Partnership for many years.

Linda’s great joy was taking care of her family, cooking special meals, and sharing her experiences with her granddaughters.  She loved to sew, cook, and care for her family.  She was a caring, loving mother and grandmother who always put others before herself. One of her delights was teaching children’s Bible classes. 

Linda is survived by her husband Darrel; two sons: Thomas of Chadron, NE, and Wayne and wife Amanda, of Hemingford, NE; two granddaughters: Emily and Sara of Hemingford, NE; and numerous relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her father T.G. Nicks and Mother Lottie Nicks.

Linda passed away on September 30th at Crestview Care Center in Chadron following an extended battle from a malignant brain tumor.  Cremation has already taken place.  A memorial service will be held at Country Kitchen’s large conference room in Chadron, NE at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11th.  The inurnment will take place at a later date at the cemetery in Crawford, NE. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to In Search of the Lord’s Way (a T.V. program teaching the Gospel of Christ), to the Chadron Church of Christ, or to Chadron Rescue Squad.  Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

George “GT” Tillman Moran, 42, of Cheyenne, WY passed away September 6, 2014 in Cheyenne, Wyoming

GT Moran, 42, of Cheyenne, WY passed away at home the morning of Saturday, September 6, 2014.  He was born January 10, 1872 in Cheyenne, WY and lived there most of his life.  GT was employed in construction and a commercial truck driver and he was also a member of the Christ Apostolic Chapel.  GT was beloved by all who knew him and he touched many lives. 

GT is survived by his son, Daren Martinez; father, Charles W.B. Mark Singer, 58, of Chadron, NE, Nebraska passed away August 16, 2014 at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Aaron Sprock officiating.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             
Mark was born on April 12, 1956 in Oakland, California to Alma and Seymore Singer.  Mark joined the Navy and was in the service until he was discharged with a medical disability in 1984.  Mark attended college, but had to leave due to his declining health.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served on various boards and committees.  Mark married Genie Hahn on May 24, 1986 in Carlton, Nebraska.

He is survived by his wife Genie Singer, Mother Alma Stairs, Step-brothers Michael Stairs, Ricky Stairs, Steve Stairs, and step sister Donna McCowen.  He was preceded in death by his father Seymore Singer.

Christopher Michael Weaver, 34,  Crawford, NE, died on August 14, 2014, in Rapid City, SD.

He was born on October 16, 1979 in Tomball, TX, the son of Gary & Mary (Wasserburger) Weaver.

Mass of Christian Burial  will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Arul Innaiah officiating.  A rosary will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 6:00 PM at St. John’s.  Burial will be at the Crawford City Cemetery.

Roseann Scherbarth, 57, Hay Springs, NE, passed away in a car accident on Friday, Aug 8, 2014 near Hay Springs. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron.  Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Chamberlain Chapel.

Roseann Joyce (Serbousek) Scherbarth was born on July 19, 1957 to Ed Anton and Marlene Serbousek (Russell).  She attended country school until 8th grade and graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1975. She married Jim Scherbarth in 1976 and had three children, Anton, Amy, and Justin. Roseann and Jim made their home west of Hay Springs. She worked at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs for 34 years. More recently at Chadron State College and alongside Jim on the ranch for 38 years.

Her interests included sewing, baking, quilting, enjoying the outdoors, hunting, fishing, calving ( when it wasn’t too cold), staying busy and spending time with her family. She loved teaching her skills of sewing and cooking to her grandchildren and enjoyed quilting and sewing for just about anyone that she could help.

Roseann was preceded in death by her father, Ed Anton Serbousek, mother and father-in-law Rosemary and Stanley Scherbarth, and nephews Michael Fernau and Cody Ruegge.

Norabelle Abbott, 90, Hay Springs, NE, passed away at Pioneer Manor on August 10, 2014.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Hay Springs with Father Joseph Joseph officiating.  Burial will be at the Hay Springs Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Chamberlain Drabbels Mortuary in Hay Springs from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.

Norabelle (Votruba) Abbott was born June, 18, 1924 at the homestead 5 miles North of Hay Springs. Norabelle was the oldest of five brothers and five sisters. She attended grades 1-8 at the country school about a mile from her parents homestead. Norabelle married Orville Abbott February 15, 1941. To this union three children were born: Marie (Golightly), Marion (Gasseling) and Jim (Abbott).

She worked at the Matt Heesacker Packing Plant for 15 years until it closed. She also was a Cub Scout Den Mother and an Avon representative for many years until she retired. Norabelle was very active in the Blue Bonnet Garden Club and VFW Auxiliary.

Many hours were spent preparing May baskets for the Blue Bonnet Garden Club, doing her crafting, gardening and taking care of her flower beds. She enjoyed watching the birds and rabbits in her front yard. Norabelle took great pride in listening to and watching the various activities her grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved in.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Abbott, parents, William and Eleanor Votruba, daughter, Marie Golightly, son-in-law, Bob Golightly, brothers, Willard, Delbert and Clifford Votruba, and sister, Annabelle Collins.

Richard Otto Voss (Bud), 96, Hay Springs, NE, passed away on the evening of August 6th, 2014 with family near, at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, Nebraska where he had resided since September, 2013.

Mr. Freeman was an US Army Veteran.

Audrey Drabbels, 92, Hay Springs, NE, passed away on August 4, 2014 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Hay Springs with Reverend Al Trucano officiating.  Burial will be at the Hay Springs Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 7:00 PM at the United Methodist Church. 

Audrey was preceded in death by her beloved husband Virgil, twin infant daughters, Carolyn and Colleen, infant daughter Jane, daughter-in-law, Raylene Drabbels, parents, Jonathan & Carrie Perreten, and sister, Ruth Black and her husband Lake Black, brother-in-law, Lawrence Drabbels, and brother-in-law, Ray Metcalfe.

She is survived by her  children, Gary (Hay Springs) , Joan DeHaven and husband Bruce (Frederick, CO) and Susan Roberts and husband Roy (Rapid City, SD); grandchildren Lisa Hughes, Stacey (Dave)  McCartney, Darren (Michelle) Drabbels, Russ DeHaven, Meredith (Greg) Koob, Joanna (Shawn) Pruitt, Angela (Patrick) Griffith, Patrick (Crystal) Roberts, Brett (Rachelle) Roberts and Aaron Roberts; 22 great grandchildren.  Also surviving her are sisters-in-law, Leona Metcalfe (Buena Park, CA) and Ida Mae Drabbels (Alliance, NE), and many nephews, nieces and precious friends.
