Miles Hare's fabulous career as a bullfighter came to an end on Saturday, August 16th in the town where he was born and raised, Gordon, Nebraska. To try to mark the occasion in a manner befitting a man of his accomplishments the Sheridan County Fairboard decided to try to catch up with some of the guys who knew him best, who owed their lives to him and who traveled with him on his journey through 33 years of professional bullfighting.
For those of you that may be less familiar with Miles' career and for those of you that have followed it closely - I'm sure you'll know a little bit more about this legendary bullfighter by the time you're done listening to this tribute.
I'd like to thank Buck Buckles, Barry "Boom Boom" Johnson, Steve Mowry, Al Sandvold, Monte James, Jim Sutton, Lance Britton, Gary Leffew, Lance Carson, Monte Melvin, Cody Lambert, Jim Thompson, Steve Tomac, Jerry "The Hitman" Norton, Wacey Cathy, Rob "The Kamikaze Kid" Smets, Liz Fisher, the Sheridan County Fair Board, Jim and Deneen Lambley at the Twister and my wife Rebecca for helping with this project. I've received a lot of praise and thanks for doing this but the simple fact of the matter is that without all of these folks it wouldn't have happened and without any one of them it wouldn't have turned out so well. And as for people thanking me...the look on Miles' face and the way he appreciated it are more than thanks enough. I mean, seriously, how often do you get to do something like this for your hero?
Miles, good luck to you my friend. Thanks for the thrills and for always doing what you do as well as it can be done and for not being afraid to pass on what you've learned to help others.
Thanks again, everybody,
Mitch Gallant
